WHY JOIN Coleman A. Young Post 202 and THE AMERICAN LEGION?

Because of the bond that All who have served share

We knew as a Sailor, Marine, Soldier, Airman, Coast Guardsman, your buddy had your back.

You joined other brave Americans in serving any place

in the world, in all types of conditions and in any situation, because it was for love of country and dedication to the principles that we live by.

You were willing to pay the ultimate price for your country, to leave your loved ones behind, to fight in lands you probably couldn’t pronounce because you were a member of the World’s greatest fighting force, “The Armed Forces of the United States of America”.

You followed the orders of the Commander In Chief, whether Democrat or Republican

That bond still exists in our Post and The

American Legion

We work hard in our Post to maintain that sense of camaraderie and trust we all experienced in serving our country.  You will find that our Post members still have your back.  We support each other, we respect each other and even though we have taken our uniforms off, we still continue to serve, the city (Detroit) which we love, our communities we live in, our State and our Nation through the programs of The American Legion.

Our Post members are proud to be a part of The American Legion Family, an organization founded in 1919, the largest veteran’s service organization in the United States with over 3 million members.

Veterans you know how hard it is to go after respect, recognition and benefits alone.  Unfortunately our fellow citizens, politiicans and policy makers quickly forget your contributions and sacrifices made while you were away serving your country and protecting them.  You won't be alone if you join our Post and The American Legion.

We need you now to join us in attaining our goal of being the largest American Legion Post in the state of Michigan.  The City of Detroit has one of the largest Veteran Populations in the country and the largest in the state of Michigan.  If just .5% of the eligible Detroit Veterans join us, we could be a powerful voice for what we believe in.

We care about America, our fellow veterans, our families and our children.  Our members participate in many community activities such as parades, memorials, dedications, etc.

We sponsor local students to participate in Legion Programs, we present ROTC Medals and School Awards to Detroit High School ROTC cadets, we visit Detroit schools to talk to students about Americanism, the importance of Veterans to this country and the merits of being good citizens.

Our members join with The American Legion in being advocates for veterans’ rights and benefits at the local, county, state and national level.  We recognize that there is power in numbers and you as a veteran can help increase that power by joining our Post and The Legion.

Our dues are only $45.00 per year and once you join you will see that it is an investment well spent.
